180 Movie – Can you defend your convictions on abortion? [FEATURE VIDEO]

180 Movie

The 180 Movie on the topic of abortion (Ray Comfort and The Way of the Master) has certainly caught some serious attention. For a 30-minute video to clock over 1.9 million views on YouTube in just over 3 months is a truly phenomenal accomplishment.

Ray takes his audience on a journey of self-discovery, encouraging those he interviews to first examine their opinion on historical life-and-death atrocities like the holocaust, then challenging them to apply that same critical thought to the practice of abortion.

The power of this film is that it removes any doubt about the moral realities of abortion. Many have become confused by scientific contributions to the debate, because these encourage an objective, unemotional perspective on the subject. Such an approach removes the “human factor,” causing emotional detachment or uninformed ambivalence about something which is the essence of “humanity” at its core. While science and philosophy offer important points of view, they should never be considered in isolation from ethical and spiritual perspectives.

Comfort does a great job guiding the path of those he interviews toward a conclusion which causes them to stop and think for themselves. Many clearly have convictions on the subject which they cannot consciously justify, and it’s interesting to see people re-assessing their views once confronted with some undeniable basic truths.

Some might argue that the conversations are very directed and that the interviewees are given little chance to guide the discussion. For many, however, this is the level at which the debate needs to occur. The scientific and philosophical arguments might well baffle many, but there would be few who fail to understand the concepts of morality and the value of life. For bringing those factors to the fore, Comfort and his team are to be commended.

180 Movie

At a tick over 30 minutes, it’s longer than most YouTube videos. That said, the subject matter is both important and compelling enough to hold your attention. Be warned that graphic images from the holocaust are used.

While we respect people’s right to alternative opinions, here at yesHEis we strongly support anything which contributes to the protection of life. We ask that you view the video objectively, and pray that it might cause you to seek God’s heart on the matter.

Do people think enough about such issues in our society? What efforts can we as Christians take to bring truth into the equation? We’re keen to hear how your own convictions have been shaped, whether by this video or for your life in general. Feel free to contribute your thoughts to the “comments” section.
