It’s boring… irrelevant… confusing….
Too often that’s the response you will hear tagged on the end of questions like “do you read the Bible?” or “Is the Bible part of your life?”
Society, inclusive of Christians and non-Christians alike, often find that history’s most influential and beloved text just….. well….. doesn’t hit the mark for them.
For your sake I will refrain from a 17 part series on why the modern world often labels Gods Word as such. I will instead have a look at one man’s work which flips these excuses on their heads and offers a creative, visual and personal expression of the stories and truth found in the Holiest of books.
January 2010, Jim Lepage tackled the conventional Christian New Year’s resolution of “reading the Bible more” in an altogether unique way. He began a personal project dubbed simply “Word”. He describes the project as being…
“… a series where I create original designs for each book of the Bible.
Each design isn’t meant to completely represent the book, rather it is merely based on a passage from the book.
My plan is to go through the books in order, posting one new design a week for 66 weeks, from Genesis to Revelation.”
Basically I think the designs that he puts out every Friday are brilliant! Jim simply grabs some of the elements, not necessarily the core philosophical or theological components, of a book of the bible and delivers them as a personal and artistic expression. Additionally he dedicates some time and blog-space to sharing some of his thoughts and reflections on the book.
Don’t expect to be preached at by Jim or discover deep and controversial biblical teachings, but instead look for personal expressions of one man’s discovery into the greatest message ever delivered to mankind. After all, isn’t that what reading the Bible is really all about? Moving beyond the text itself and discovering the timeless and supernatural personal revelation that God has hidden there just for you.
An amazing, yet perhaps unintentional, element of Jims work is that it bridges the divide between imagination and the Word not only for Christians, but potentially also for anyone else who has struggled to discover the relevance of the Bible in modern living. As individual pieces I see them having fantastic evangelical potential for Christians and their online networks, appropriately shared of course.
Jim’s work will certainly be followed closely by us here at yesHEis and REACH, and will often find itself shared with many of our friends, Christian and not, I’m sure.
If you would like to look at all the designs to date, head over to Jim LePage’s site. www.jimlepage.com
Jim also offers prints through a couple of third party printers to America and all around the world.

Hahaha. Took me a little while to figure out the Genesis one (I must be a bit slow) but I love the 1st Samuel one – very clever! All up Jim has found a wonderful way to spice up his time in the Word.
I can’t draw at all but it has challenged me to think up something similar to bring my own quiet time to life a little bit. All in all a great story. Thanks.
